9-bits A tumblog by David Kaneda about design, technology, and business. Broadcast from Palo Alto.

Tumblr is now testing “Pages”:

You can now add static pages to your blog, with a few very useful options. Head to your blog’s Customize page and click the “Pages” menu to get started. There are currently three types of Pages you can create:

Standard Layout. Create a simple page with a title and body using your current theme.
Custom Layout. Create a page with a completely separate layout.
Redirect. Forward a route to a page on another domain. Useful for maintaining links when moving your domain name over to Tumblr.

Developers: Check out the Theme Docs for instructions on implementing the new {block:Pages} tag.

Once again, Tumblr’s brought the platform to a whole new level. Can’t wait to test it out.

Adding share buttons to your Tumblr blog

For those who don’t follow me on Twitter, I’ve spent a few hours today getting “share” buttons on my site. I ran into a few hiccups along the way, so I’m posting a brief recap, in case it helps anyone else.

Philly Tumblr meet-up

phillymeetup:

So, after much pushing from nearly everyone in Philly with a tumblr, I agree its time to look at all your pretty faces in person again.  I’ve got some name tags, stickers, and table tents ready to distribute.  Let’s aim for the second week in November.  Give me suggestions and I’ll set something up.  Where and when are best for you?

The Tumblr staff just posted a huge upgrade to theming, with options for Custom Fonts, Booleans, Text, and Images! This really opens up the world of Tumblr theming to huge possibilities. I hope I can set aside some time over the next week or two to make my own.

Wow, one thousand — seriously, thanks everyone. Congrats to Sean Oldham who was my thousandth Tumblr follower, and picked himself up a set of Field Notes journals. I’m currently working out the same deal with my thousandth Twitter follower and will tweet the deets as they come.
Thanks again, and here’s to the next thousand.

Tumblr Tuesday

I’m going to start following suit with the Tumblr Staff and begin posting my favorite Tumblr sites each week. For those that don’t know, Tumblr is an amazing publishing platform that is growing incredibly fast. Each week I stumble across a variety of new, niche sites hosted on Tumblr, and this seems a great way to share them.

That said, here are some recent favorites:

  • The Footnotes of Mad Men — A great look into the subtleties and cultural references of this amazing show’s 1960s setting.
  • Poster Deck — Simple site with beautiful posters.
  • Fuck Yeah Facts — Interesting facts from around the world, sources included.
  • There’s Treasure Everywhere — ”Two type nuts, documenting examples of typography made unintentionally beautiful.”
  • Onomols — Okay, I couldn’t resist. Woth tony oys ond mooth.
